Pic Stitch is a free app for iOS and Android that lets you stitch together multiple photos into one JPEG file for sharing on Instagram, Facebook, etc. It's one of the most popular options on iOS and I haven't ran into any problems with it so far.

Are there other photo stitching apps that work well?

I tend to find stitching apps incredibly restrictive in terms of things you can do with them, so I just don't bother. I'd rather edit it with a proper photo-editing program like PicsArt on Android, or Photoshop if I can be bothered moving the it to my computer.

There's a PicsArt on iPhone too  :D

I think it has more to do with people trying to share photos instantaneously after taking them on sites like Instagram and Facebook. I think that's a big reason people buy the camera connection kit or SD card reader for iPad.
