There are numerous times in our life when we feel really sad due to something and by being really sad I mean that situation where we are just sad and not angry at all.

While I have seen that most people like to go in the brooding mode at such times or rather prefer sleeping or isolating themselves. I made an experiment on myself

Lately whenever I have been going through such a sad time be it due to some despairing news or anything I try putting myself to work and though initially it didn't work out but soon I started noticing that my work in such times goes a notch higher in terms of quality. which in turn helps in my own mood uplift.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing before ?

I've never felt inspired to be creative when I'm sad. There have been times when I was feeling down and I was uplifted by a news story or a friend and it may have felt a little inspiring, but I've never felt sad and wanted to do anything creative.

Then again, we see so many musicians composing great work when they're in bad moods (like all those breakup songs) so it must work for some people!

It sounds like you're putting aside any sadness you're feeling and putting all your concentration into your work - which is a good idea. If it helps improve your mood afterwards then it's a win/win situation as you have improved work quality and a better mood.

I also haven't ever done anything productive or creative when I'm sad, I just push it aside. But it's different for everyone.

I think the closest inspiration to sadness I've had would be in writing. I've never used it while I'm taking pictures. I usually feel like capturing moments like that where I am in complete calm or if I'm in the middle of happy event.  I could never be that person taking pictures at a funeral for example (I suppose that could easily be changed if I did know the deceased person or their family and they're simply paying me to take pictures).
