Are you all thinking about getting some photography-related gifts this season, for yourselves or for friends?

I've seen some USB 3.0 external hard drives on Amazons with the daily sales at fantastic prices....you can pick up a decent 2TB drive for under $200. I bet any photography junkie would love that!

I think an Apple Time Capsule or AirPort Extreme with a USB hard drive would make an excellent gift. It basically creates a shared network drive that you can access from any computer on the network.

Solid state storage is still limited in capacity on newer laptops and it's an extra step to always plug in a drive to work on photos, and the Time Capsule / AirPort Express takes care of those problems.

That's a really good idea! I wish the AirPort Extreme had USB 3.0 so I could plug in some very fast drives.

Lens hoods are also a great option! New photographers may not have one but they're cheap and extremely useful!

I'll add filters to that list.

They say that some photographers don't like using a filter over their lens because it may add some distortion, but many prefer to use a filter as a layer of protection in front of their expensive lens.

I think the best and foremost thing to buy for a photography aspirant (after a camera of course) has to be the tripod. A tripod has to be there on that list because of the stability it provides to the newcomers who aren't completely in control of camera shake and 'L-position' of camera holding.
